Obituary

Arden Harris Lockett was born September 1, 1930, in Cleburne, Texas. He grew up in Joshua and attended Joshua Elementary School through the sixth grade. At the age of 13 he travelled to Oakland, CA, and began working for the City of Oakland Transportation Department washing buses. He worked there for a short time until they found out he was under age. He then returned to Texas to find employment.

Upon returning to Texas, Arden began various employments including work at George's Garage, Graves Feed Store, the Cleburne Cotton Compress, Buckner Construction, Lone Star Gas and the Texas-Pacific Railroad. In 1948 he worked for Johnson County on the construction of FM 917 from Joshua to Egan. In addition, Arden was employed as a painter at Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years until retirement.

On August 20, 1949, Arden married Una Faye Sparks of Egan. The couple met on the square in Cleburne in May of 1949 and were married by Arden's uncle, Elijah Locker, of Cleburne. In 2024 Arden and Dee were honored with a special proclamation given by Joshua, Texas Mayor Scott Kimble and the city council celebrating their 75 years of marriage.

Arden and Dee joined Mount Caramel Baptist Church on January 6, 1967. Arden served as Sunday School Superintendent in the church for 33 years. Both loved Mt Caramel and the wonderful fellowship they had with friends and families. They both remained members until their recent deaths this year.

Arden was preceded in death by his loving wife of 76 years, Dee Lockett. He is survived by children, Sherry Carruth of Cleburne, Gordon Lockett of Frost, Carla Tidwell and Florene Haas, both of Joshua. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild were also dearly loved by the couple.

Arden will be remembered by family and friends on October 25, 2026, during Sunday morning worship beginning at 11:00 at Mount Caramel Baptist Church of Cleburne. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to Mount Caramel Baptist Church of Cleburne.
