Johnnie Crow Goad Barker
A graveside service for Johnnie Crow Goad Barker, 98, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. The Rev. Keith Whitt will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Johnnie Crow Barker, a beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend claimed the promise of her Baptism on Saturday, March 17, 2012 two weeks after celebrating her 98th birthday with family.
The daughter of Hiram D. and Ethyl Crow, Johnnie was born on March 3, 1914 in Johnson County, Texas. She grew up in a large family of eight children, where she began a lifelong strong work ethic by picking cotton, gardening, cooking (she was in charge of the family baking) and caring for others. As a 37 year old mother, she was widowed with five children (three still at home). To help support her family, she went to school and became a nurse, which she continued for many years at Cleburne Memorial. She was also a member of the North Cleburne Baptist Church. Johnnie leaves an incredible legacy to her family of hard work, good home cooking, caring for others, and being a faithful Christian servant.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Chester Goad; second husband, Troy Barker; daughter, Linda Adcock; son, O’Neal Goad; sisters, Marie, Rita, and Jewel; and brothers, Howard and Billy Mac.
Johnnie is survived by daughter, Gwen Rawlings of Lake Wales, Florida; sons, Kenneth Goad and wife Beth of Leander, Texas; and Howard Goad and wife Cheryl of Austin, Texas. In addition, she leaves behind brother, Dr. Herman Crow of Hurst, Texas; and sister, Kathryn Dickert of New Jersey; as well as 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Johnnie and the family were very blessed by the home and the care that granddaughter, Kristi Jenkins provided for over 17 years.
