Billy Joe Burch

Billy Joe Burch, of Keene, Texas, passed away peacefully and took his first steps into Heaven on November 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Bill was born on December 16, 1937, in Cleburne, Texas, to the late Joe and Colleen Burch of Rio Vista, Texas.

Bill’s childhood was filled with adventure, growing up on the family farm in Rio Vista alongside his five siblings. As the second oldest, he learned the value of hard work early in life — a quality that would define him for decades to come.

Throughout his life, Bill held many jobs, including working at an air conditioning factory, the Rio Vista Cotton Gin, the Lime Plant and farming. It wasn’t until a trip to Red River, New Mexico, in the late 1970s that Bill discovered his true passion — the mountains. Captivated by their beauty and peace, he made Red River his home and purchased Road Runner Jeep Tours, beginning a new and fulfilling chapter.

During this time of his life, he met Nancy and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure in Angel Fire. The two became successful entrepreneurs, owning several businesses including a local vending machine company, Road Runner Snowmobile and Ski Rental, Elk Horn Lodge and Roadrunner Tours of Angel Fire which offered guided Western trail rides and sleigh and carriage rides.

Bill had a true soft spot for all animals, but none held a bigger place in his heart than his two beloved chihuahuas, Oreo and Bubbles. They were his constant companions, always by his side and bringing joy to every moment.

Angel Fire turned into the family’s beloved spot for all his siblings, nieces, and nephews. They enjoyed many trips to the mountains for some fun skiing and quality family time while creating wonderful memories together.

When Bill’s health began to decline, the cold mountain air and high altitude became too difficult for him to manage. He returned home to Texas, where he became a resident of Town Hall Estates in Keene until his passing.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Gaylon Burch; sister, Anna Haynes; and first wife, Virginia Burch. He is survived by his brother, Tommy Burch and wife Diane of Rio Vista, TX; sisters Marion White of Breckenridge, TX, and Helen Sims of Cedar Hill, TX; sister-in-law, Frances Burch of Rio Vista, TX; brother-in-law, Tom Haynes of Pattison, TX; and Nancy Burch of Angel Fire, NM, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Rio Vista, Texas.
