Brady Louis Curtis, Jr., 77, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan, Texas.
He was born September 7, 1949, in Cleburne, Texas, the youngest of four children of Brady Curtis Sr. and Ruby Curtis. He attended Cleburne High School, where he was a starting forward on the basketball team and was named All-District. Upon graduation in 1969, he attended the University of Texas at Arlington. Brady enjoyed playing basketball at Hulen Park in Cleburne, where he met the love of his life, Betty Carper. They married August 19, 1972, at the Church of Christ in Cleburne. They made a home in Arlington, where they had a son, Brandon, and a daughter, Brianna. Brady worked as a carpenter building custom homes and retired in 2007.
Brady was a jokester who never missed a chance to make people laugh. He loved animals of all kinds, including dogs, tropical fish, and tortoises. He was a gifted woodworker who could often build furniture without ever needing plans. He even built an elaborate farm for his pet tortoises that he loved showing off to friends and family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, and father, but his greatest joy was being a grandfather. He was blessed with a granddaughter, Lillian, in 2015 and a grandson, Frank, in 2017. He loved spending time with them, and they affectionately called him "Pepe."
Brady was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty; his parents; his sister, LaWanda Parks; his brother, Don Brewer; his sister-in-law, Barbara Pugh; his brother-in-law, Albert Pugh; and his nieces, Donna Taylor and Amy Mitchell.
Survivors include his son, Brandon; his daughter, Brianna Tofel, and her husband, David; his grandchildren, Lillian and Frank; his brother, Danny Griffin, and his wife, Janice; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2026, at George's Creek Cemetery.
