Caren Renee Mexia, 68, of Cleburne, Texas passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 in Cleburne.
A Come and Go Celebration of Caren Renee's life will be held at the Brightwell Home, 1102 Stonelake Dr., in Cleburne from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Caren was born on January 14, 1958, in Odessa, Texas, to Bobby and June Watts. She was born prematurely as a twin. Although she was the smaller of the two, weighing only 2 pounds, 10 ounces, she was the only twin to survive. From the very beginning, she demonstrated remarkable strength and determination. While health challenges would remain a part of her life, they never defined her.
Caren attended Abilene Christian University, where she earned a degree in Home Economics along with a Pre-K/Kindergarten teaching endorsement. She devoted her career to education, serving in several teaching positions, but her favorite role was at Irving High School. There, she taught instructional home economics and, through her compassion and dedication, helped students with disabilities develop life skills and secure employment at local grocery stores and restaurants. Her love for children also inspired her to serve as a coach for the Special Olympics, a role that brought her great joy.
Caren was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby and June Watts.
She is survived by her sister, Chrisanne Brightwell and her husband, Larry, of Cleburne,Texas; her nephew, Zach Brightwell and his wife, Sarah, and their daughters, Ember and Stella; and her niece, Reagan Priester and her husband, Andrew, and their son, Tucker.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Santa Fe Trails Assisted Living, who lovingly cared for Caren for the past six years. They also wish to thank AlevCare Hospice for the compassionate care they provided and for always responding with kindness and urgency, day or night.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics or to the charity of your choice.
