Obituary

Graveside services for Carol Jane Howard, 93, of Dudley, TX will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026 in the Tecumseh Cemetery in Callahan County. Elder Sidd Villasis will officiate.

Carol passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 in Keene, TX. She was born in Rotan, Texas the daughter of Mary Jane (Adams) and Charles Delaney Hicks.

Carol married Calvin Ray Howard on March 11, 1950. They were a good team. Carol loved to quilt, and Ray would precisely cut each piece for her and she would help him with many of his projects in his welding business. She was a true homemaker and delighted in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, and refinishing furniture. She was nicknamed by her family as a "human calculator" because she was so fast with numbers. Outdoors, she loved flowers and feeding the birds.

She was a member of the Abilene Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as treasurer for many years. 

She loved her family and the Lord!

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Hicks; her beloved husband of 66 years, Calvin Ray Howard; son-in-law, Rusty Rowan; sister, Empress (Austin) Bagwell; brothers, C.D. (Willadean) Hicks and Jessie (June) Hicks; brother-in-law, Phillip Goodrum; sister-in-law, Darlene Hicks; and brother-in-law, Bill Howard.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Howard (Debbie) of Keene, TX; and daughters, Doneva Rowan of Burleson, TX; and Jodie Meadows (Cecil) of Dudley, TX; brothers, George Hicks (Sherry) of Hawley, TX and Thomas Hicks (Judy) of Hawley, TX; sisters, Ila Goodrum of Abilene, TX, and Leila (Larry) Smith of Abilene.

Grandchildren: Kristi Rowan, Kimberly Simpson (Jason), Kari Couret (Cheyenne), Cody Meadows (Charley), Karly Lawrence, Cory Meadows, Ashley Watson (Stephen) and Calvin Howard (Elise). Great grandchildren: Braydon, Channing, Camille and Autumn Watson, Cade and Harper Rowan, Avery and Brody Couret, Jacey and Kyler Simpson, Madeline, Macy, Hunter and Hayden Meadows, Kinsey and Kisely Lawrence. 

Many precious nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Olga Howard Spaulding and Glynda Means (Lyle); and wonderful friends--especially Jean Casey, Ruthie Lawrence and Bonnie Davis.
