Mary Virginia “Ginny” Cates
Godley— A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary Virginia “Ginny” Cates, 81, of Godley, Texas will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Windhill Ranch in Godley.
Ginny died peacefully, September 21, 2012 after 8 years of Alzheimer’s. She was born in Long Island, NY on October 29, 1930.
Ginny was married to Allen Wade Cates for 60 years. They were sweethearts, best friends, and ranching partners. She was mother to Karen Capper, Carolyn Preissinger, and Becky Wills.
A TWU biology graduate, she loved introducing children to wonders of science through gardening, animals, and cooking. Ginny entered a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ in 1971, and God captured her heart and became her Delight. Her husband described her as his “angel,” and her children, “rise up and call her blessed.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nina Florence (Thomas) and Chauncey Kenneth Smullen.
Ginny Cates is survived by her husband, Allen Wade Cates of Godley; daughters, Becky Wills and husband, Bob, of Godley, Karen Capper and husband, Steve, of Houston, TX and Carolyn Preissinger and husband, Rob, of Godley.
