Obituary

Cecil Graham Briley, Jr. of Joshua, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026, at the age of 67.

Born June 16, 1958, in Dallas, Texas, Cecil was the son of Cecil Graham Briley, Sr. and Mildred Jean Barnum-Briley. He spent his early years in Fort Worth before moving to Godley, Texas. There, he distinguished himself as Co-Captain of the varsity basketball team, All District in football, and was honored as Mr. Godley High School his senior year - a reflection of both his leadership and the way people were naturally drawn to him.

Though born into one family, Cecil's life was shaped profoundly by others who chose him. He was lovingly raised by Pop and Maw McClain, who became his steady foundation. From early on, he understood that family is not defined by blood alone, but by commitment, loyalty, and love. That belief would define the rest of his life.

Cecil worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, rising to the position of District Manager through hard work and determination. Later, he entered the plumbing business alongside his son David, building something meaningful together before eventually retiring.

The role he treasured most was being a father. Cecil adopted his boys - he chose to father them and did so with everything he had. Having once known what it felt like to be without that security himself, he gave his sons steadfast love, protection, and pride. He showed up fully. He invested fully. He loved fully.

He is survived by his sons, David Briley (Mechele) and Jason Briley; his brothers Robert Briley, Paul Briley, John David McClain, and Clyde McClain; his sisters Regina Hankins and Sherry Hodges; his grandchildren Kayden Briley and Danyel Briley-Roe (Nathan); his great-grandson Nathan Truiett Roe Jr.; his nephews Josh Briley, Shayne Briley, Barry Don Steenbergen, and Will McClain; his nieces Rachael Briley, Kristi Briley, Cathy Ridley and Nikki McClain; his great nieces AJ Steenbergen, Mia Steenbergen, and Fallyn Ridley; Tommy and Sherry Hughes; Mr. And Mrs. Hamm; his best friend Missy Steenbergen; and many extended family members and friends whose lives he impacted deeply.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Jean Barnum-Briley; his brothers Derek Briley, Terry Briley, and Tracy Briley; and his beloved Meemaw.

Cecil was a man of wide interests and steady routines. He loved racing, attending concerts, and cheering on TCU. He enjoyed trading stocks, faithfully walking on his treadmill and exercising, and attending sporting events of all sorts. He appreciated a good party and spending time with his many family members and friends. In his later years, he found peace in gardening and maintaining his yard. His loyal dog, Buddy, was never far from his side.

Cecil was a hardworking family man who quietly blessed many with kindness and practical generosity. He believed in taking care of what you have - whether that meant family, opportunity, friendships, or responsibility. He lived by a simple truth: It's not what you have, but how you take care of what you have.
