Obituary

Charles Robert Burt-known as Charlie, Dad, Daddy, and Pops-passed away on August 24, 2026, at the age of 68.

Born in Sebastopol, California, to Jean and Vernon Burt, Charlie was the youngest of six children. He liked to say, "They stopped at six once they got it right!" As you can see, humility was one of his best qualities-along with his humor.

Charlie attended Rio Linda Adventist Academy, graduating in 1976, and received his accounting degree from Pacific Union College (PUC) in 1980.

Within his first year of work after graduating from PUC, one of the best things that could happen to Charlie did happen: he met Jamie. They both knew almost immediately, "This is the one," and were married a year to the day after they met, on December 19, 1982, in San Antonio, Texas.

Charlie followed Jamie to Texas and would often say, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could!"

They made their home in Keene, Texas, where they welcomed their firstborn, Jessica, in 1985. Four years later, Matthew was born, completing their family of four.

Charlie was a career CPA for 45 years. One of the shining moments of his career came in 2017, when he took a leap of faith and opened his own firm, partnering with his niece Lisa to create Burt & Lace, LLP. His son, Matthew, also enjoyed working with them. With his vast and seemingly endless knowledge, combined with a genuine desire to connect with and care for his clients, many clients became friends-and, over time, friends became family.

Charlie truly enjoyed life and was full of joy. He had a wide range of interests, but some of his favorite things were telling punny dad jokes, spending time with his family, playing games (virtual mini golf was his current craze), collectibles, taking pictures and making slideshows, listening to music, traveling to Hawaii or Galveston, and enjoying slow mornings with coffee and Jamie.

Charlie loved, and he was deeply loved.

He loved and adored Jamie. He loved his family. He loved God. He loved his community in Keene. And his deepest hope was to be reunited with his loved ones in Heaven one day.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Jamie; his daughter, Jessica (Ozgur); his son, Matthew (Megan); his siblings, Donald (Danna) and Jeanette (Rick); his brother-in-law, Jay (Carleigh); his sister-in-law, Dawn; his in-laws, Gerald and Peggy; and his beloved grandchildren, Hadley (11), Hayden (6), Aidan (14), and Evren (12).

Charlie had a large and loving family, and while not everyone is named, he was especially privileged to share a close relationship with his nieces Kim (Barry), Lisa (Kenneth), and Amy (Darrell), and his nephew Brian (Melissa).

The family has chosen a private goodbye. No formal service will be held.

The best gift you can give our family is the gift of memories and stories of Charlie. Please share them with us so we can continue to celebrate the life he lived and the joy he brought to so many.

And with that, we will leave you with one last note:

"Be good and you'll be happy!"
