Evelyn Yvonne
Ainsworth
December 29, 1937 – April 7, 2026
Evelyn Yvonne Ainsworth was called to her heavenly home on April 7, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on December 29, 1937, in Woodlake, Texas.
Yvonne attended high school in Mexia, Texas, where she was a standout student and a spirited cheerleader. During that time, she caught the attention of a tall basketball player named James, who boldly declared from the very beginning that he was going to marry her.
At first, Yvonne wasn't so sure. But James was persistent. Even after Yvonne moved during her senior year to Bremond, Texas, he made the drive every Friday to watch her cheer from the stands before taking her out on their weekly date. It didn't take long for Yvonne to fall deeply in love. One evening at the Dairy King in Mexia, James asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she said yes and the rest is a beautiful story that lasted nearly 70 years.
Yvonne and James were married on June 29, 1956, in Mexia, Texas, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. They raised four children, instilling in them a deep love for the Lord. Yvonne gave her whole heart to everything she did. For many years, she taught cradle roll Bible class on Sunday mornings and was deeply involved in church life. She and James poured into the lives of young people through church youth activities, including CTYC church camp and mission trips, loving those children as their own. They also faithfully prepared communion trays for years and were always ready to serve wherever needed.
Yvonne was a devoted homemaker, a teacher aide in the Cleburne ISD and faithfully supported James in his manufacturing business. Together, they shared a love that stood as a beautiful example to all who knew them.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, James D. Ainsworth; her sister, Betty Jo Striplin ; her children, Cheryl Lawrence and husband David, Brenda Stepp, Kalon Ainsworth and wife Sharon, and John Ainsworth; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Opal Brown; her sister, Earline Harris; and her son-in-law, Rickey Stepp.
A service to celebrate Yvonne's life will be held at Westhill Church of Christ on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation immediately following the service. Rosser Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
