Gary Neal Underwood of Godley, TX, passed away on August 27, 2023. He was 73 years old.

He was born in Watonga, Oklahoma, to Anna Grace Smith and Olen Underwood on August 21, 1950. He graduated from Cleburne High School in 1968. He then became an auto mechanic working at Meeks Garage and later Forrest Chevrolet in Cleburne. He married Leigh Ann Campbell on June 5, 1984, and they were married for 39 years.

Gary enjoyed collecting antiques and taking the grandchildren on tractor rides. He enjoyed repairing anything for anybody, including cars and toys. He made sure others did not have a minute of trouble. He gave out little trinkets, such as a marble or toy car, to kids to make them happy, even if they were a stranger.

Gary is survived by his sister Kathleen Knapp and her husband Richard of Cleburne, sister Carolyn Brown of Burleson, brother-in law Jimmy Campbell of Red Oak, brother-in-law Tony Campbell and his wife Debbie of Cleburne, daughter Shelley Aki and husband Robert of Nebraska, daughter Neely Vasquez and husband Adam of Grandview, daughter Cally Escobar and husband Celso of Plano, beautiful grandchildren Adley, Cruz, Celise, Neeson, Chloe, Alysha, and Kianna, and great-grandson Mason, all of whom will miss their Poppy. Gary had numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly.

A service will be held to celebrate the life of Gary at First Baptist Church of Cleburne located at 414 N. Main Street on September 9, at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Charles Payne officiating.
