Funeral services for H. Clinton Roberts, Jr., 89, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, in the V. O. Schneider Memorial Chapel with Dr. Dennis Haslam officiating. Burial will follow in Keene Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Mr. Roberts will lie in state from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Rosser Funeral Home.

Harvey Clinton Roberts, Jr., known throughout his life as Clinton, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, following a long and full life devoted to faith, family, hard work, and service.

Clinton was born September 9, 1936, in Silsbee, Texas, to Harvey Clinton Roberts, Sr. and Velma Rankin Roberts. He was the eldest of four children: Clinton, Curtis Roberts, Phyllis Roberts, and Carolyn Page.

Clinton learned the value of hard work early in life. His father, despite having only an eighth-grade education, taught himself the electrical trade and became an electrician. His mother devoted herself to raising their children before returning to school and becoming a nurse. Their determination, resourcefulness, and commitment to family became qualities Clinton carried throughout his own life.

When Clinton was young, Harvey and Velma moved their family to Keene, Texas, with the specific purpose of providing their children with a Christian education. Clinton attended school in Keene and later continued his education at Southwestern Junior College, becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college.

It was during his college years in Keene that Clinton met the love of his life, Betty Fortner, a farm girl from Happy, Texas. Their courtship produced stories the family would continue telling for decades—from Clinton slowly driving his car alongside Betty because the conservative college rules discouraged young men and women from walking together, to school picnics, boats, fast cars, and Betty serving Clinton an extra helping of the potato salad that would remain his favorite for the rest of his life.

Clinton and Betty married in 1957, beginning a marriage and partnership that would span more than six decades.

Clinton began his professional career as a bank teller with Republic National Bank in Dallas. Through determination and many years of hard work, he steadily advanced in the banking industry. Republic National Bank eventually became part of NCNB and later Bank of America, and Clinton ultimately retired as a Vice President.

Faith was also an important part of Clinton's life. He was a longtime member of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served his church and community in numerous capacities over the years, including as an Elder, Deacon, Pathfinder Director, and member of the School Board and Church Board. He also served on conference committees, contributing his time and experience in support of churches and youth projects throughout the Texas Conference.

Clinton and Betty were blessed with four children: Karen Griswell, Keith Roberts, Kevin Roberts, and Kaye Rogers.

Christian education remained as important to Clinton and Betty as it had been to Clinton's parents. When their older children approached school age, Clinton and Betty purchased property near Keene so their children could receive the same type of Christian education that had helped shape Clinton's life.

Clinton then undertook one of the many projects that demonstrated his remarkable work ethic: building the family's home himself. After working a full day at the bank in Dallas, he would make the drive home and spend hours working on the house, ultimately building a home for Betty and their children from the ground up.

Clinton was also known for his extraordinary memory, his love of cars—particularly fast ones—and more than a little stubborn determination. Family members learned that almost any event from decades earlier could be dated according to whichever car Clinton happened to be driving at the time.

Clinton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Roberts; his son, Keith Roberts; his parents, Harvey and Velma Roberts; and his sisters, Phyllis Roberts and Carolyn Page.

He is survived by his children, Karen Griswell and husband Paul, Kevin Roberts, and Kaye Rogers; and his grandchildren, Stephen Sullivan and wife Chris, Eric Sullivan, Bryan Sullivan, Tenli Rogers, Christy Favazza and husband Brandon, and Josh Kimberly and wife Amy.

His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Lana Sullivan, Lilly Sullivan Wlodawsky, Lela Sullivan, Adeline “Andi” Sullivan, Thaddeus Sullivan, Moses Sullivan, Violet Favazza, Iris Favazza, Declan Kimberly, Lucas Kimberly, and Rose Kimberly.

Clinton also had the remarkable privilege of welcoming another generation into his family and is survived by his great-great-granddaughter, Lila Wlodawsky.

From the oldest of four children in a hardworking Texas family to the patriarch of a family spanning five generations, Clinton lived a life defined by determination, faith, responsibility, and devotion to those he loved.

He was a son and brother, a husband of more than six decades, a father and grandfather, a great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, a banker, a church leader, a builder, and a man who believed in working hard for the things that mattered.

Clinton leaves behind far more than the accomplishments of his 90 years. He leaves behind a family shaped by the life he and Betty built together, a legacy of faith and hard work, and countless stories that will continue to be told—probably becoming just a little more exaggerated with each retelling.

And somewhere in those stories there will undoubtedly be a fast car, a boat, Betty, and a plate of potato salad.

A life well lived, a family well loved, and a legacy that will continue for generations.
