Obituary

James Melton Terry, 84, of Cleburne, Texas, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, in Cleburne.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026, in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel preceded by a visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Greenacres Memorial Park with Sammy Terry, T.J. Terry, Stephen Dunn, Mark Holliday, Jordan Fanning, and Bart Barnett serving as honorary pallbearers.

James was born in Grandview, Texas on December 14, 1941, to Davis and Ruth (Etheridge) Terry. He married the love of his life, Betty (Golden) Terry in 1966.

He spent most of his life in sales in the HVAC industry. He was very mechanical and the go-to person for HVAC technicians who couldn't figure out a problem with a unit. He loved his job and never met a stranger. James would strike up a conversation with anyone.

He loved hunting and fishing in his earlier years, spending many of his birthdays on a deer lease. He then took up golf and spent many happy hours playing with family and friends. He marshalled at Cleburne Golf Links on the weekends for several years and enjoyed the people he met there.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Scarbrough.

James leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Betty Terry; daughters, Angie Fanning and husband, Jordan, of Burleson, Lisa Holliday and husband, Mark, of Cleburne; Glenda Perkins of Godley; and Tonya Barnett of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Misty Hightower and husband, Derek, Matt Fanning and wife, Ashley, Amber Dunn, Jacob Fanning and partner, Cody Jackson, Amanda Erving, Kristina Holliday, Stephen Dunn and partner, Jordan Sopchok, Austen Barnett, and Brittany Smilko and husband, Jonathan; sister, Margie Barrett of Cleburne; brothers, TJ Terry of Weatherford and Sammy Terry and wife, Sharlotte, of New Braunfels; brother-in-law, Leon Golden and wife, Marilyn of Fort Worth; as well as 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and many other family members and friends.
