Obituary for Ruth McCollister (LaDow)
Ruth LaDow McCollister, 97, passed Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, in Cleburne, Texas. There are no services scheduled.
Mrs. McCollister was born in Fredonia, Kansas on Nov. 1, 1915, the daughter of Jean and Carl LaDow.
She married C. D. McCollister on Nov. 24, 1938 in Iola, Kansas.
She lived in Dallas, Texas and Utopia, Texas before settling in Alpine, Texas in 1957. She received a B. S. from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Education from Sul Ross University in Alpine. Ruth was retired as a counselor diagnostician with Alpine ISD’s 588 Educational Co-op.
She was a member of Eastern Star, AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, and delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years. Ruth also volunteered as a pink lady at Brewster County Hospital for many years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Alpine.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C. D. McCollister on Dec. 30, 2003; and daughters, Jeanne Zeliff and Cheryl McCollister.
She is survived by her sons, Alex McCollister and wife, Pam, of Cleburne and Charles McCollister of Alpine; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
