Funeral services for Richard Garrett Hays, 42, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Rosser Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Rio Vista Cemetery.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service.

Richard Garrett, "Richie" Hays was born on May 31, 1982 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Paula Diane Starnes and Mark Richard Hays. Richie passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

He lived in Wichita Falls until first grade when he moved to White Settlement. In sixth grade the family moved to Joshua. Richie was in the top 5% of his freshman class and graduated from Joshua High School.

Richie loved his family and his beloved dog Rosie. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, and Chris Stapleton. He also loved football and reading James Patterson and John Grisham books. Richie was very intelligent and funny.

Richie fought a courageous battle against brain cancer for 10 years. He was at peace and found God. Richie knew he was going to Heaven and was ready to go home to Heaven. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Morris Shelton Starnes; and his grandmother, Anna Nichols Hays.

Survivors include his mother, Paula Fabianke; father, Mark Hays; grandmother, Cecelia Starnes; grandfather, Tom Hays; sister, Angeli Hays; niece, June Hernandez; aunts, Melissa Shahan and husband, Foy and Stephanie Hays; uncle, Donald Allison; several cousins; extended family and friends.
