Pearl Josephine (Jo) Sherwood (Reed)

July 20, 1924 — March 28, 2020

Jo Sherwood, 95, of Cleburne, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020, surrounded by her children who loved her dearly.
Jo was born July 20, 1924 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Jabez and Hattie Lou Reed. On December 21, 1944, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Edward Sherwood. Jo and Jim met in Malvern, Arkansas, while Jim was on leave serving as a meteorologist in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They began a sweet and dedicated love story that lasted 49 years.
After WWII, Jo and Jim moved to Baytown, Texas, where they began their family with children Karen Louetta and twins Donald James and Ronald Thomas. She was a devoted mother who guided, encouraged, loved completely and unconditionally. Her home was warm and welcoming to family and friends, especially as they enjoyed her wonderful cooking. In 1963, the Sherwoods moved to Houston and in 1964 to Bay City, Texas, where Jim became President of Bay City Bank & Trust. In 1975, the Sherwoods moved to Cleburne, Texas, where Jim became President of Cleburne National Bank.
Jo was a leader in the Altar Guild at First United Methodist Church and was very active in King’s Daughters. Jo was always so supportive of Jim. They were faithful members of The Wesley Sunday School Class. Jo and Jim also enjoyed The Cleburne Garden Club. After Jim’s retirement, they loved camping and their fellowship in The Good Sam’s camping group. Jo loved to camp and go to Lake Ouachita in Arkansas with her family. She was even water skiing into her 60’s. Jo loved playing cards and they were very active bridge players. With the arrival of grandchildren, they embraced their new roles as “Grammie and Big Dad”. Jo was especially thrilled with her seven great grandchildren and loved watching them run and play.
Jo will be most remembered for her gifts of hospitality, serving, and love. She gave generously of herself, especially when it came to her family. Her home was a warm, welcoming place, filled with her artistic creations and the aroma of wonderful food. Jo spent a lifetime creating rich memories of holidays, birthdays, and fun for her family and friends.
Jo is survived by her children, Donnie and Teresa Sherwood of Mansfield, Texas, Ronnie and Roxy Sherwood of Cleburne, Texas, her grandchildren, Sam and Austin Sherwood of Washington, D.C., Andy and Erinn Sherwood of Abilene, Texas, Kimberly and Brandon Soukup of Wylie, Texas, Ben and Sofia Sherwood of Brooklyn, New York,
Emily and Jeremy Ramirez of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by seven great- grandchildren, Cuyler, Kaysen, Dexter, Lola, Graham, Bennett and Ila Rose.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents Hattie and Jabez Reed of Malvern, Arkansas, daughter Karen Sherwood Cory of Pampa, Texas, and her brother TJ Reed of Sherwood, Arkansas.
Jo will be laid to rest beside Jim at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery in Cleburne, Texas on Tuesday, March 31 at 2 pm. Viewing will be at the Rosser Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31 from 9 am to noon.
