Shirlene Mae (Jones) Abbie, lovingly called "Mere Mere" by the precious little voices of her grandbabies, entered the Kingdom of Heaven Saturday afternoon, August 31, 2024. She passed peacefully in Breck and Brent's home surrounded by her most cherished loved ones.
Shirlene impacted an astonishing number of lives in her 73 years of life on this Earth. Though she is overjoyed walking with Jesus on streets of gold, her absence leaves behind many grieving loved ones.
In 1951, in the west Texas town of Kermit, on July 2nd or 3rd, Shirlene Mae Jones was born to Ormond Earl "Buddy" and Juanita Evelyn "Neta" Jones. Her 11-month older sister, Margaret "Margie" Jones and Shirlene were instant best friends. Thick as thieves, they roamed the neighborhood streets of Monahans, Texas until the oilfield called Buddy Jones and family to Louisiana. That is where Shirlene's lifelong love of flowers began and where her baby sister, Jennifer Lynn Jones, was born. Shortly after, the family returned to Monahans, and the Jones sister trio ran rampant!
At 18 years old, Shirlene left west Texas to attend modeling school at Bauder Leigh Fashions in Arlington, Texas. Her fashion and class stayed with her all her days. Shortly after her modeling days, Jennifer Jones dragged her reluctant sister to a party where Shirlene met the love of her life, Robert Edward "Bob" Abbie.
Shirlene and Bob were married November 21, 1982, at his parent's home in Plano, Texas. They welcomed their first daughter, Rachel Jade on September 27, 1983, and second daughter, Andres Breck on April 26, 1988.
In the 1970's, Shirlene began her lifelong career as a florist in Cleburne, Texas. She worked at every shop in town as well as her own shop, Abbie's Flowers. Her final floral assignment was helping her youngest daughter open Breck & Co Floral located in downtown Cleburne in 2019. Shirlene's incredible designs and arrangements blessed the lives of so many and brought so much joy and surprise to so many! During her years in the floral industry, Shirlene met her "Tribe" who became family. Her daughters have heard hundreds of people talk about their Momma's floral talent their entire lives. Her creativity and eye for detail has been passed down to her daughters and grandchildren.
Shirlene always had respect for the Lord, but in her 40's she began to truly seek him and formed an intimate relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit that would stay with her until her last breath. She planted the most important seed in her daughters, a seed that would eventually bloom into the same desire to know, love, and rely on the Lord Jesus Christ. Many of their friends accepted Jesus into their hearts because of Shirlene's desire to spread God's word and save lost souls.
Shirlene was preceded in death and now walks beside many of her loved ones in Heaven including her parents, Buddy and Neta Jones; in-laws, Robert and Sam Abbie, and Mary Belle Gressett; as well as her husband, Bob Abbie.
She leaves behind a large loving family, daughters, Jade Mixon and husband, Chase, and Breck Kiel and husband, Brent; cherished grandbabies, Baron and River Petty and Otis, Wyldon, and Pennington Kiel; bonus daughter, Brenda McGhee and husband, Lamar; bonus son, Sean Petty and wife, Avril, and their children: Amalie and Anna Alexander and Yves Petty; sisters, Margie Durr, Jennifer Bates and husband, Daniel, and Carla Shaw and husband, John; co-moms, Danielle Petty and Robin Kiel; beloved Abbie and Kiel family members; seven nieces and nephews; six great nieces and nephews; and of course her very best friends, Stevie Berg, Luanne Bailey, and Teresa Whiteside; and countless other friends.
The family would like to follow Shirlene's wishes for her celebration of life. She asked that we remember the happy times and gather together to honor her life with pretty flowers, good music, and lots of laughter. Mourning in black clothing and tears of sadness just will not do!!!
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on the evening of Monday, September 9, 2024, at Rosser Funeral Home followed by Shirlene's Memorial Service on the morning of Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at The Space in Cleburne.
