Obituary for Alice Zillah Songy (Migaud)

Funeral services for Alice Zillah Migaud Songy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Keene Memorial Park Cemetery.

Alice Zillah Migaud Songy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and wife. She passed away peacefully on January 27, 2022 at the age of 89 surrounded by four generations of her family at her “happy, happy home” in Keene, Texas.

She was an early Christmas gift to Eveline “Inez” Bankston Migaud and William Gardner Migaud born in Hammond, LA on December 23, 1932. She grew up on Cambronne Street and attended Eleanor McMain High School in New Orleans before moving to Grand Drive in Metairie where she proudly earned her high school diploma in 1951 from Metairie High School. Despite the difficulty of moving to a new high school her senior year, Alice loved living next to her beloved Uncle Emmit in the house built by her grandpa, father, brother and future husband.

Alice first and foremost prioritized her family, always willing to help her many loved ones. She met her future husband Roy Edward Songy at Seventh-day Adventist Junior Academy when she was only 10 years old. They married 8 years later at New Orleans First Seventh-day Adventist church in 1951. Incredibly creative, Alice shared her love of gardening, ceramics, sewing and crocheting with their 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Indeed, there was no other way Alice preferred to spend her time than with her family at the many family celebrations, visiting the botanical gardens, watching Saints and Cowboys games (paying special attention to her favorite Dak Prescott), fan-girling over Chip and Joanna Gaines with a visit to Magnolia Market, and those lucky enough to have been there will never forget the almost day-long Walmart trips. A life-long learner, she was a talented pianist, Phillips College interior design and business administration graduate, licensed real-estate agent and novice swimmer in mid-life despite her fear of water.

She settled with her family in Burleson, TX in the mid-1980s so Roy Edward could join their two sons who had established a plumbing business in the area. She was also a successful entrepreneur, founding and growing her own residential and commercial cleaning company, which she managed until her retirement. In her senior years, Alice moved to her dream home built especially for her in Keene, TX by her son Dale.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eveline “Inez” and William Migaud, husband Roy Edward Songy, brother Gerald “Bo” Migaud and granddaughters Michelle Songy and Jayme Strickland. She is survived by her children Debbie Songy, Roy Alan Songy (Becky), Dale Songy (Julie), Laurie Songy, Donna Wilson (Charlie) and Christine Songy-Castro, sister Barbara Garrett and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her family will celebrate her life on February 1, 2022 when she will be laid to rest next to Roy Edward in Keene, TX.
