Graveside services for Sylvia Jewel Bates, 88, of Cleburne, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Raby Cemetery located on Warren Hollow Road in Moore County, Tennessee. Mr. Mark Pierce will officiate.
Sylvia Bates passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Cleburne. She was born in El Reno, Oklahoma on January 17, 1937, the daughter of Cletus Warren (Mount) and Moody Burrow. She grew up in Shelbyville, Tennessee and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1955. Sylvia married Charles V. Bates on December 6, 1956.
Before moving to Cleburne, she was employed with McDonald-Douglas in Tennessee. After the move, Sylvia worked at the Cleburne Memorial Hospital in admissions. Her true calling was as a domestic engineer, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Sylvia was of the Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and sister, Rilla Freeman.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Eddie Bates and wife, Cristy, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, Cathy Wilson and husband, Rod, of Joshua, Texas, and Lori Weber and husband, Skip, of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Virginia Shields and husband, Tyler, Michelle Braunlin and husband, Dr. Eric Braunlin, Matthew Wilson and wife, Mia, Brittany Angst and husband, Casey, George Weber V, and Jordan Parker and husband, Will; great grandchildren, Aylssa Shields; Grace, Luke, Joy, Hope, and John Braunlin; Penny and Harvey Angst; and Tommy Parker.
Following the burial, family and friends are invited to gather at 11:30 a.m. at Glass Hollow Table and Tavern on the square in Shelbyville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia's memory may be made to Alzheimer's research at alz.org or dementiasociety.org.
