Travis Eugene "Gene" Jernigan, 83, of Godley, Texas, passed away Friday September 12, 2025 at his home. Gene dedicated more than 65 years to public service, agriculture, and community leadership. He retired as Vice President of External Relations for TXU Business Services after 37 years, he also served in Austin for the 67th-84th Legislative Sessions.
A proud graduate of Godley High School, Gene went on to earn both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Sam Houston State University. He began his career as a vocational agriculture teacher before stepping into a lifetime of leadership. Gene served as State Vice President with the Young Farmer Organization, past president of the North Fort Worth Rotary Club, past president of the Fort Worth Farm & Ranch Club, and co-chairman of the Texas FFA Convention. He spent 55 years with the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, where he was an Honorary Vice President. In 2003, he was honored as "Man of the Year" by the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association. Past President of the North Fort Worth Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, President of the North Fort Worth Farm & Ranch Club
Gene and his wife Margaret built their life in Godley and Indian Gap over 36 years, where they managed a cow/calf operation. He has four children and were blessed with thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Gene will be remembered for his steady leadership, quick wit, and devotion to his family and community. His life was an example of integrity, generosity, and strength.
A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2025, at The Round Up Inn, 3400 Burnett Tandy Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76107.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the "Gene Jernigan Scholarship Fund" can be made through ACS Bank - Godley, Texas (PO Box 867, Godley, TX 76044).
